A meeting with the Kiambu County Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee was held in the month of March Where a KAM presented a memorandum on the Kiambu County Provisional Collection of Revenue bill 2015 which was discussed.
The aim of the Bill is to introduce and implement revenue raising measures to meet the revenue needs of the County as the Finance bill awaits enactment and publishing. According to KAM the County needs to put in place enabling laws that support the fees, levies and charges in the Finance Act. Further the county needs to limit collection of taxes to the two provided for in the Constitution ie Property Rates and Entertainment Taxes and any other Tax as shall be permitted by an Act of Parliament. KAM further proposed that for the revenue to be collected annually, an annual report needs to be submitted to the County Assembly itemizing amounts collected from each revenue stream.
The committee acknowledged the efforts that KAM was putting towards the education of the money bills in collaboration with Commission of Revenue Authority (CRA). The committee welcomed KAM's help in the process of legislating the enabling laws and any other laws.
